Shakespeare vs. Berrigan

Shakespeare:     The poems are loved-filled pieces. The language is a form of old English and yet very descriptive. It seems as if love is his main focus and that Shakespeare wants to share his Passion of love with the world. He uses his vivid yet deep imagery to capture the audience attention and to have the understand all the love, cruelty, pain and happiness life may bring. Basically Shakespeare's poems are examples of cause and effect and the never ending resolution in his specific style of literature.

Berrigan Sonnets: The poems are very detailed and awkward pieces. Mainly discussing the death of Marilyn Monroe. It seems as if Berrrigan is depressed about her death yet infatuated with it at the same time. In this style of literature, it seems as if Berrigan randomly put together vivid words just to sound bold. Unlike Shakespeare Berrigan focuses on the negativity of life without positive resolutions at the end of his sonnets.

Both poets are fairly different but have some similarities. Shakespeare is more of a heart-filled poet using negative issues of life such as death, heart break and deceit to show how there is always a little good in something bad (positive resolution). On the other hand Berrigan is more of a poet that has a lot of issues pertaining to personal things that hey have been through. Basically wanting the audience to experience what hey have felt.
